Cottage pie – a British classic #veganstyle

If you are a fan of British cuisine, you will know that Cottage pie is a classic!

Here you find our veganized recipe:



potatoes (500 gramm per guest)

an onion

a glove of garlic

red lentils

bell pepper

vegan minced meat / soy bits

vegan cheese


soy milk

optional: mushrooms and zucchini

herbs and spices of your choice



First peel the potatoes and boil them for about 20 minutes.

Then add some margarine and soy milk to the potatoes and mash them.IMG_2355

While the potatoes cook you can prepare the sauce. Dice the onion, the garlic, and the bell pepper (optional the mushrooms and courgette). Put some olive oil in a sauce pan and roast the veggies gently , then add the vegan minced meat. After a minute you can add some water and the red lentils as well as the spices and herbs of your choice. Now let the lentil simmer for about 5 minutes.


Now you can put the mashed potatoes in a casserole, then the sauce on top …IMG_2356

and finally the cheese!


I used ‘Cheesly’ Hard Italian Style and ‘Willemsburger’ grated cheese. The secret very healthy and delicious ingredient today is:


Safran. Just sprinkle a little bit on top of the cheese.

Then put the casserole in the oven at 180 ° C and after 20 minutes you can indulge!
