Today I came to the conclusion that I haven’t been grateful enough recently. At the moment everything is falling apart around me and I guess it is because I didn’t care enough. I was so busy self pitying myself that I missed to look at all the good things that I already have in my life. But this has to stop now.

Backed up by the new moon which stands for new beginnings and the solar eclipse which marks the end of a cycle I pledge to spend more time being grateful for all the blessings I receive, have received, and will receive.

Starting on 1 September I would like you to join me in my challenge #30daysofdeepestgratitude on Instagram. Every day in September I am going to draw something I am grateful for like my beautiful home, my family, pets, work, food from the garden, etc

I would be very happy and thankful if you join me. Together we can bring lots of positive vibes into this world.

Blessings to you. Namaste 🙏🏻

Today I am so sad to be without my dog Romeo but yet so grateful I had him in my life for 12 years.

Rest In Peace, sweet Romeo

“Sommerwind” – Part 1

“Sommerwind” – Part 1

Yesterday the art exhibition “Sommerwind” (Summer wind) showing my latest pieces of art started in the beautiful town of Rastede. I have already been teaching English and Chakra Meditation at the adult education centre KVHS Ammerland for a couple of years and this year I have also been asked to start teaching art workshops 🙂 And hold an exhibition! Yay!

The vernissage took place at the new building of the VHS, and so I am the first artist to be able to show their works there! On Friday it was “Hanging Day”.

I arrived in the morning with my paintings and found that there was a brand new hanging system and it proved to be difficult to get the frames up onto the walls. But with a lot of help from my daughters and  the staff of the VHS we managed to get it all done. It looks great!

The vernissage was very nice, I met a lot of lovely people, and received lots of positive feedback. Thanks to everybody who came!

Here you can see the paintings which are currently exhibited and for sale:

Extra sweet potato curry

Extra sweet potato curry

fullsizeoutput_711a

When you have to cook for children AND adults it is often hard to find something everybody likes so we often have to prepare different meal for our beloved family members.

Today I thought that something sweet might be suitable as it has been really cold the whole week and the children are having a short end of term break here in Germany.

Most children like potatoes if yours do not then you can take pasta, I guess. I cooked the potato curry in one pan and prepared some extra (hot & spicy) veggies for the grown ups in another pan.

This is my recipe for the extra sweet POTATO CURRY

1 kg potatoes peeled and diced

1 l water

1/2 cube vegetable stock

50 gr red lentils

1 small onion

1 small clove of garlic

400 gr pineapples diced

1/2 bell pepper

1/2 can coconut milk

2 tb sp maple syrup

1 tb sp curcuma

a pinch of salt

Please feel free to replace any vegetables your child doesn´ t like with some they do like e.g. carrots, fennel, etc

First cook the potatoes with the stock, lentils, onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 20 min.

Then add the other ingredients and let it simmer for another 15 min.

Enjoy your healthy meal!

fullsizeoutput_7116

If your child still doesn’t´t want try it, put it all in a blender and serve as potato mash.

For the hot and spicy veg take a bag of frozen mixed vegetables and cook them with stock, onions, garlic, salt, and add chilli sauce to your gusto.

Bon appetit!

The Story of Birdy

The Story of Birdy

This week there has been a challenge on the Make Art That Sells blog.

Advertising her new children´s book illustration class Lilla Rogers handed out a five part task in which you had to design the character of Birdy, a little girl, create a setting, play with scale, and finally place the character into the setting. These are my results.

It was a lot of fun creating these pictures and I would love to do more children´s book illustrations in the future.

Have a lovely weekend!

Tree Affirmation Cards

Tree Affirmation Cards

img20161230_13573452Between the years I participated for the first time in the “Woman Unleashed Online Retreat” by the wonderful Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici. It is a free retreat where you can watch lots of amazing lessons ranging from Art via cooking classes to beautiful meditations.

Woman Unleashed Retreat

One of these lessons war hosted by the inspiring Alena Hennessey whose art classes are always brillant. The picture which evolved after that lesson is the one you can see above: The oak tree.

After I finished that picture I drew some more trees, the willow, the birch, the maple, and then I thought I should turn them into a series of affirmation cards which represent the chakras.

So here they are:

Hello, everybody! I hope you are enjoying the Christmas time and find some time to relax, bake some cookies, and kiss underneath the mistletoe.

I am very busy as usual, not only with Christmas preparations and my current exhibition “Love remains” (I told you about it in my last post) but also with making plans for the new year. Which courses and workshops will I teach? Where is the best place? How can I advertise most efficiently? As an entrepreneur you always need to be one step ahead.

And when I was thinking about my plans I came up with the idea of my very own art challenge for 2017 to which you are now officially invited! Yay!

The challenge is called “52 weeks of vegan art 2017” and is going to start on 2 January. Every Monday I will post a certain topic for the week and you can create whatever suits you best. Everything is possible from photography, via sketches, doodles, paintings, to sculptures or elaborate photoshop images. Everybody can take part from mere beginners to famous professionals, from long-time vegans to people who are just interested in becoming vegan.

I set up a Facebook group where you can share your creations, make new friends, post vegan related  things, or just have a look at the work of the other artists.

52 weeks of vegan art 2017

You can also post your pictures on instagram using #52weeksofveganart2017

I will post lots of your images on my blog and give shoutouts on IG.

The first topic will be “A lucky pig for 2017”

The whole challenge is of course absolutely free with no hidden agenda except to make 2017 a bright and colourful year for the cause of #animalequality and #veganism so I hope I could convince you to join me. 🙂

Enjoy the advent time!

December wishes

December wishes

Robinsunderthemisteltoe.jpg

Another month has started, it is December! Everybody is getting very busy with the Christmas preparations, and so am I.

But for me the Advent time always starts with a little downside. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the death of my little brother Jan, he was only 10 years old when he died on  2 December 1986. That was a very tragic event for me  -and of course even more for my parents – which had a great impact on my life. Very often the choices I make are a result of the feeling that nothing lasts forever and you should enjoy life now and not wait until tomorrow.

After the unbearable funeral of my brother my parents moved out of the family home for about six months and left me alone in our house. Being a young girl I felt very afraid and vulnerable suddenly on my own and definitely still in shock about the events. And then came Christmas Eve which has indeed been my darkest night ever. Being alone on Christmas Eve is the worst feeling somebody can experience.

That is why I would like to ask you this year to have a look through your contacts and if you think somebody might be alone on Christmas Eve please move forward and invite them into your home or spend some time with them. Please be kind and give somebody a lovely Christmas time.

And – VERY IMPORTANT – if you love somebody just tell them today – because tomorrow they might not be here anymore.

This year I am very lucky to be able to hold an exhibition of my watercolour works in the palliative ward of a local hospital and so I would like to use the opportunity to dedicate this exhibition to my brother. The exhibition is called “Love remains” and can be visited from 7 December 2016 until 7 February 2017. The Vernissage will take place on 13 December at 3 pm.
