December wishes

December wishes

Robinsunderthemisteltoe.jpg

Another month has started, it is December! Everybody is getting very busy with the Christmas preparations, and so am I.

But for me the Advent time always starts with a little downside. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the death of my little brother Jan, he was only 10 years old when he died on  2 December 1986. That was a very tragic event for me  -and of course even more for my parents – which had a great impact on my life. Very often the choices I make are a result of the feeling that nothing lasts forever and you should enjoy life now and not wait until tomorrow.

After the unbearable funeral of my brother my parents moved out of the family home for about six months and left me alone in our house. Being a young girl I felt very afraid and vulnerable suddenly on my own and definitely still in shock about the events. And then came Christmas Eve which has indeed been my darkest night ever. Being alone on Christmas Eve is the worst feeling somebody can experience.

That is why I would like to ask you this year to have a look through your contacts and if you think somebody might be alone on Christmas Eve please move forward and invite them into your home or spend some time with them. Please be kind and give somebody a lovely Christmas time.

And – VERY IMPORTANT – if you love somebody just tell them today – because tomorrow they might not be here anymore.

This year I am very lucky to be able to hold an exhibition of my watercolour works in the palliative ward of a local hospital and so I would like to use the opportunity to dedicate this exhibition to my brother. The exhibition is called “Love remains” and can be visited from 7 December 2016 until 7 February 2017. The Vernissage will take place on 13 December at 3 pm.

November dreams

November dreams

fullsizeoutput_6f2f

Today we were greeted with the first snow of the upcoming winter season. Although the arrival of snowy weather  almost always gives me migraines I tend to find snow very calming and  soothing. The blanket over the earth enables us to look inside rather than outside and search for our deepest wishes and hopes for the next year to come.

At the moment I am taking the e-course “Do what you love” by the amazing Beth Kempton and she teaches us to dream big and visualise your future as detailed as possible in order to bring your dreams into reality. If you want to change your life for the better I can honestly recommend taking this course as it offers you tools to detect your desires and shows you ways to implement them. Also the online community is incredibly supportive and I found a couple of lovely new friends there.

Do what you love

What are your goals for 2017? Do you want to be more loved and respected, do you want to get better paid for your work, or do you want to quit your job and start your own business? Now is the time to do some serious planning ahead. Write everything down, make lists of what you want to change, what to want to keep. Map out your future and send your wishes to the universe. Making positive wishes for everybody in your life will transform the reality and soon you will be living the dream.

I started this year by making lists of want I want to achieve, where I would like to go to, negative things I would like to get rid of, etc. And I must say, most of it has already come true because I had visualised it very clearly before.

Now I am planning to put all my knowledge of visualisation into a brand new workshop that I am going to offer in early 2017. The workshop will contain elements of yoga and chakra meditation as well as encouragement training and mindfulness tools.

Artistically I am working on more recipe illustrations for They draw and cook. I love to come up with new vegan or veganized recipes and am grateful for having to possibility to show them to the world via this fantastic website.

There will also be another exhibition of my yoga / meditation paintings in my hometown Oldenburg in early 2017. More details coming soon.

Last but now least I would like to inform you about my new yoga courses which will start in January. There will be a course for beginners on Tuesday nights and an open class on Sunday afternoons. You can find more details on

I hope all your November dreams will come true, don´t forget to make a wish on 14 November when there is a potent full moon in Taurus.

Namaste!

Utterly delicious Pumpkin soup

Utterly delicious Pumpkin soup

pumpkinsouprecipe

So it is finally Autumn – my favourite season! Not only because I am born in October but also because I love foggy cold morning walks, warm sunny afternoons, and cosy evenings by candlelight.

I also love pumpkins, so today I want to share with you my very easy pumpkin soup recipe.

First you will need a pumpkin.img_3963

Today I used a little organic Hokkaido. You just have to chop it into little dices about 3 cm wide. Put them on a baking tray and season them generously with your favourite spices. I used salt, pepper, garlic powder, turmeric, paprika, and some chilli powder. Now sprinkle the dices with olive oil. Roast them in the oven for about 30 minutes at 180 ° C.

Bring 2 l of water to the boil, add one or two vegetable stock cubes. Stir well until they are fully dissolved. Add the roasted pumpkin and blend in the pot. Alternatively you can blend the pumpkin first and add to the soup. Cook for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat. Now add the coconut milk or alpro soya cuisine or any other cream alternative of your choice. Stir well and enjoy!  img_3966

That was quick! Roasting the pumpkin in the oven until it is tender makes all the difference! Bon appetit!

By the way Turmeric is truly a superfood and you should use it more often. It decreases your risk for cancer, is anti-inflammatory, supports detoxification, balances your blood sugar, and even helps improving your cognitive functions

Vegan in Oldenburg

Vegan in Oldenburg

IMG_4955.jpg

Now I have been a vegan for 5 years, time really flies .. I vividly remember writing

Now I have been a vegan for 4 years, yay!

Well, what has happened since then? What has changed within the last 5 years?

For one thing it is more common now to eat vegan food. Lots of restaurants here in the beautiful city of Oldenburg offer vegan options now while 5 years ago they would just look at you and ask: But you eat fish, right?

And friends don´t panic when you are coming to dinner – by now they know that you can eat “only” vegetables.

So where do I go when I would like to eat out?

Well, I really like Peter Pane – formerly known as “Hans im Glück. They offer 4 kinds of vegan burgers even one without bread which is great at night when you don´t want to many carbs.

img_4856

Then we have got the Veggiemaid Snackbar which offers a great brunch at the weekends.

When I am on a shopping tour in the city I like to stop at Woyton for a matcha soy latte and / or a vegan bagel.

Of course, there are lots of other great locations in the city but in Summer it is nicer to take a short drive to  the lovely Beachclub Nether where you can sit and watch the wakeboarders do their tricks until sunset while enjoying a Beck´s blue and a blindside burger.

img_3955

A little bit further North on the North Sea coast you can find Sonnendeck Dangast but I have told you about it before. 🙂

Vegan Travelling: Day trips to Hamburg and Dangast

Shopping food gets easier, too. Not only Denn´s Biomarkt but also Edeka, Rewe, Netto, Aldi, even Real offer a wide choice of vegan / organic options.

Although I still like to order some things (like heavy 10 kilo bags of dogfood) at Alles vegetarisch a great online store with an enormous range of articles.

Yes, you heard right, the dog has become a vegan, too. Good old Romeo has been living vegan for three years now and is feeling great like me!

img_3139

For me becoming vegan was the best decision of my life and I hope that I will live to see it becoming “normal”. So if you haven´t tried it #govegan  – at least give it a try for a month and you see how good it makes you feel!

I hope some of these links are useful to you, in case you have other great suggestions about restaurants which offer tasty vegan food, feel free to leave a comment!

Vegan Travelling: Day trips to Hamburg and Dangast

Vegan Travelling: Day trips to Hamburg and Dangast

IMG_4915

HAMBURG

Hamburg is always worth a day trip especially in summer when there is a feeling of easiness in the otherwise so busy Hanseatic city. As we used to live in Hamburg for seven years we always try to come back here during the summer holidays. Last Tuesday we took the train in order to go on our annual shopping spree which is mostly connected with a visit to the Musicals. This time we went to see the show “Best of 2016” presented by the graduates of the Stage School of Hamburg in their brand new theatre called First Stage.

But let´s start with the best part of travelling .. the food!

When we arrived at the station in Hamburg we came across the CityDöner shop which is very popular. I asked for anything vegan and expected to see some eye-rolling or ignorance about the difference between vegan and vegetarian. But I was positively surprised when the shop assistant told me he could offer me two kinds of Börek – one filled with spinach and one with potato. I chose the spinach bored and was even more surprised when I had to pay only 1,10 Euro for it. It was huge, and utterly delicious! So this is truly an insiders´ tip. Unfortunately I was so hungry that I forgot to take a photo.

We had a great day, it was sunny, we had soy latte at Starbucks, the show was fantastic, the only negative thing was that our favourite restaurant “Waku Waku” had been closed. At the Waku Waku you could get delicious freshly prepared organic vegan wok dishes so let´s hope they will reopen their restaurant soon at another venue.

There are of course lots of restaurants which offer vegan food in Hamburg and another top notch place is the  Syrian restaurant Saliba in the beautiful  Alsterarkaden.

DANGAST

Dangast is a small village on the North Sea coast. It is not far from our hometown Oldenburg so when the weather is fine what could be nicer than to cruise to Dangast and enjoy a day at the seaside.

IMG_4968

If you want to eat something vegan in Dangast you can either go to the old Kurhaus where they offer vegan cakes on Sundays or you can visit the Sonnendeck Dangast which has become a very popular place over the past few years.

IMG_4995

The Sonnendeck offers for example  cocktails, organic lemonade, sweet potato fries, and a very tasty and very filling vegan burger. There are often concerts in the evening or you can rent the whole facility for your party. Last year I even held a yoga class there. 🙂

Sonnendeck

This was indeed a very special Sunday treat and we enjoyed our day at the sea a lot.

Now the summer holidays are over and it is back to school and work. If you are interested in my work please have a look onto my website

It´s May – time for entertainment and events

It´s May – time for entertainment and events

IMG_2386

For the last six months I have been busy setting up my creative business. I took lots of classes, spent millions of hours in front of the computer in order to learn Adobe Illustrator, created dozens of designs, and now it is time to put it all out into the universe (meaning to you, my customers).

The first event coming up is the “Koffermarkt” (suitcase market) in Oldenburg which will take place next Saturday (7 May 2016). In the lovely scenery of the local theatre Susi´s Cauldron (that´s me) will sell greeting cards, mugs, throw pillows, pouches, mousepads, fabrics, bags, etc. directly out of an old vintage suitcase.

One week later there will be a revival of the little Vegan Café in our garden. My daughter Debbie and me are going to treat you with lots of delicious cakes, muffins, brownies, sandwiches, etc. Let´s hope the weather will be nice for that occasion.

IMG_0145

On 15 May I will be at another garden event (Tag des offenen Gartens), this time at the wonderful garden of Dörte Wemken and her family in Bad Zwischenahn. I can truly recommend you to come there as you will be delighted to see her beautiful plants and animals. Susi´s Cauldron will be there among other artists to promote their products and artworks. Some of the photographs I took there last year were turned into greeting cards or other items.

This is where the garden event will take place!

On 22 May I am going to teach a Chakra Meditation workshop at the Home of Yoga in Rastede, there are still some spaces left.

In case you like food illustrations please have a look at my Instagram page as I am taking part in the #100dayproject for which I chose to draw what I eat everyday. You can find my illustrations  using the hashtag #susisveganfoodillustrations

Cottage pie – a British classic #veganstyle

Cottage pie – a British classic #veganstyle

If you are a fan of British cuisine, you will know that Cottage pie is a classic!

Here you find our veganized recipe:

IMG_2348

Ingredients:

potatoes (500 gramm per guest)

an onion

a glove of garlic

red lentils

bell pepper

vegan minced meat / soy bits

vegan cheese

margarine

soy milk

optional: mushrooms and zucchini

herbs and spices of your choice

safran

IMG_2354

First peel the potatoes and boil them for about 20 minutes.

Then add some margarine and soy milk to the potatoes and mash them.IMG_2355

While the potatoes cook you can prepare the sauce. Dice the onion, the garlic, and the bell pepper (optional the mushrooms and courgette). Put some olive oil in a sauce pan and roast the veggies gently , then add the vegan minced meat. After a minute you can add some water and the red lentils as well as the spices and herbs of your choice. Now let the lentil simmer for about 5 minutes.

IMG_2351

Now you can put the mashed potatoes in a casserole, then the sauce on top …IMG_2356

and finally the cheese!

IMG_2357

I used ‘Cheesly’ Hard Italian Style and ‘Willemsburger’ grated cheese. The secret very healthy and delicious ingredient today is:

IMG_2353

Safran. Just sprinkle a little bit on top of the cheese.

Then put the casserole in the oven at 180 ° C and after 20 minutes you can indulge!

Bon Appetit!

Valentine´s day is approaching and expectations are running high for a special dinner date with your loved one. But who wants to spend all Sunday standing in the kitchen preparing food? So here is my super fast, super vegan, and super healthy dessert recipe.

Next step: add some vanilla soy yoghurt – I chose the one by Alpro. IMG_1639

Then add some diced fruit to your liking or even better: the favourite fruit of your sweetheart. I chose my favourite which is pineapple.IMG_1640

Now sprinkle some super healthy chia seeds on top.IMG_1643

Enjoy!

I am sure your vegan lover will be delighted! You could also add some vegan heart-shaped biscuits (e.g. Keksfreunde)!

Happy V-Day! 🙂

Loaded Veggies

Loaded Veggies

Yesterday I bought some lovely big brown mushroom, some big chunks of celery, and some very long red peppers, all organic of course. In the evening I prepared a delicious celery soup containing potatoes, carrots, onions, red lentils, garlic, and some Indian spices. Surprisingly even the kids liked the soup! I added some croutons as decoration and all was perfect!

IMG_1618

Today I prepared the mushrooms and the peppers. First I washed them, then they were cut open, the stems of the mushrooms were put aside.

IMG_1598.jpg

I filled a pot with water and some salt, and cooked a mixture of millet and spelt in it as part of the filling.

IMG_1601

The stems of the mushrooms were fried in a pan with onions, garlic, fennel, and yellow pepper. I added some salsa sauce.

IMG_1600

I put on the oven and started filling the vegetables.

Finally I sprinkled a lot of vegan cheese on top of them.

After that they spent about 20 minutes in the hot oven at 180 ° and then it was time to tug in! mmmmh yummy!IMG_1627.jpg

Bon appetit! 🙂
